Final Update

The Final Blog

Well. Here we are. It is the end of a long journey.

First of all thank our amazing teachers who were behind us during the whole project.
Thank you for being critical where needed and approving where appropriate.
For most of us, this was the first opportunity to work as a group on a game project from idea to the polish.

Personal Summaries

Finally we have each written a little summary of our experience.

I learned so much from this project. To be completely honest, I didn't know what to do at the very beginning, maybe because I am a bit insecure regarding my 2D/3D skills. In the end, I managed to do a big majority of the game's RFX, the characters and masks, I learned to use Unity from scratch, to create advanced shaders, working with a team, in synergy with devs... and so much more !

This project has been a very enriching journey. From brainstorming together to find the perfect game idea to working late at night fixing bugs, it has been an interesting few weeks. We encountered some problems on the way, but we always managed to overcome these in the end to get to the game we have now. I learned a lot of things about myself, communication, programming, teamwork, how to manage bigger projects in a certain amount of time and more. Before we started, I wasn’t quite sure how well I knew Unity and how well I would be able to keep up with people who were used to working in Unity. When we actually started working on it though, I didn’t nearly have as many problems as I thought I would get. All in all, the last few weeks have been a fun experience.

Working on this project taught me a lot of things. How to deal with a larger project, working with a team, brainstorming, planning a larger project and many other things. Throughout the project I enriched myself with the new features of unity and tried to master them as well as I could. Although I had some issues with it at the beginning, I eventually managed to overcome them all. This has been the first time I worked with a team where we specifically had devs and artists working together. It was a great experience and I’m happy to have been a part of it.

This has been one of the greatest experiences Ive had at a learning facility.
From the get go I was really excited to work with my group. I liked the people and I liked the game Idea.
For me it was the first time working in a big group of capable people on a single game for a long time.
I am very happy to have experienced this and it has enriched me a lot.
Most of all I am grateful for everything I have learned.
I would not want to have missed this.

This project has definitely been a learning experience in many ways. I usually have some problems dividing my time, but noticed this was way less of an issue while working in group which is a relief. Learning how to work in a different game engine was also very interesting since it made me more confident in case I have to switch programs in the future. We also divided the work in a way that everyone had a wide variety of things to work on, so completing some tasks that were not in my comfort zone was also very valuable. In general, working as a team for a project for the first time rather than solo was a nice experience that I really enjoyed.

Here we are, 13 weeks later and with a game.  Not as finished as we wanted it to be, but that's part this whole thing I suppose.
It was really nice to be able to work with a team, and even better to work with this team.
I loved discussing features and art related things with everyone. Hearing all the creative things people came up with was refreshing for my own inspiration.  It's still hard to give someone feedback when you don't like an idea or suggestion but that's always difficult.

Working with a limited amount of time and with multiple people involved showed me how important it is to prioritize work and be efficient.
Quality over quantity was a tough thing to keep in mind because it's so 'easy' to keep working on one part until it looks good.
But then you have 5 more things to do and only 45 minutes left and you wanted to submit everything before midnight but you might as well fix this other small thing. And before you know it, it's 1:30 am and the next morning the leads will tell you the importance of sleep hygiene (and rightfully so).

All in all, this was one of the more insightful courses . I really liked working with these people and  I'm happy with the end result.

Plus, we managed to make this game during a global pandemic which sounds pretty hardcore.

And that's it. This time for real

Thank you for following us on our journey, thank you for your interest and time.

Much Love, Group 18
