DevLog - Post 04


Were back to showing off!

After two weeks of production we have a lot to show off again!

Lets start with the programming stuff, so you may stay around for the much more interesting art later ;)

Back to the Future Prototype

Our goal on the programming end of things was to get back to the state of the prototype with clean versions of the systems that already existed. And we can proudly say: we are almost there :)

It has to be considered that the prior systems took a LOT of time to be created and balanced, so it is expected that it takes more time to create them in a clean fashion.

Here are some of the things we have already up and running:

Player behaviour: 

Movement: The player can move, jump and dash. The rotation of the player is more intuitive now as well as it has a higher turnrate.

Player movement (jumping, moving, ...) & banana disappears after a while

Picking up fruits to heal

Other behaviour: the player can attack other players, can pick items up,  consume items and the player will respawn a few seconds after dying.


Totem Behaviour:

The center piece, greatest foe and possible amazing friend is our Totem.
The Cruel and or Merciful god!

I created a neat little class based state machine for it, which allows me to add behaviours really easily.
Here are the abilities the Totem has currently.

First up, old but gold the good ol' regular fire spit:


Next up, again something you have allready seen.
Do you like fruit, the merciful Totem shall give ;P


Now to the new stuff. Do you hear it rumbling? Its a thunderstorm!


Last and least nice! The Ultimate Fire Attack! And before you think its already bad, it can change directions!


And lastly, it always returns back to its original rotation, staring into your soul!


Fighting System:

The fighting system is code wise mostly done, however since it needs animations for proper testing it is not really tested yet.
For that purpose I have created a little damage display, to make sure that its visible that stuff works at all.

Initially we wanted to use Mixamo to have quick and easy humanoid rigs with the shortest amount of time. The cool and handy part of using Mixamo is that we can already have animations that fit the automated rig.

But there is a huge con that changed our plans : no controllers. And since we probably need animations that Mixamo cannot provide, we need an animator-friendly rig. So our new plan was to use the 'Quick Rig' button from Maya which also makes great humanoid rigs WITH controllers. We did it ! We can start animate these natives now!
